Renowned medical doctor and social media health advocate, Dr. Chinonso Egemba, popularly known as Aproko Doctor, has reiterated the importance of dialogue and storytelling in shaping societal norms and individual behaviours. In a recent public engagement, the health influencer highlighted how communal conversations, passed-down beliefs, and shared narratives continue to define cultural identity and behavioural patterns across generations.

Speaking on the theme of social transformation and cultural awareness, Aproko Doctor noted that much of what people do today is not by chance but is largely influenced by the stories and ideologies that have become embedded in the fabric of society.

“When you look at the behaviours we currently see in society, they were shaped by the beliefs and stories we’ve told ourselves over time,” he said. “They were built by the conversations people have—whether through life experiences or matters of the heart.”

According to him, the power of influence lies not only in policies or laws, but in the everyday discussions that occur within families, communities, and online platforms. These conversations, he argued, form the foundation of how individuals interpret right and wrong, and ultimately, how they choose to live.

Aproko Doctor delved deeper into the psychological and cultural roots of human behaviour, pointing out that what people internalize often stems from shared knowledge, storytelling, and societal norms. He emphasized that culture is not static, but an evolving reflection of what communities value and talk about the most.

“If you examine the prevailing culture in a particular place, look at what is in their hearts and the conversations they are having. Those are the elements that shape behaviour. So, if we can influence what people are talking about, we can influence how they behave—it’s all about how the message is told.”

This insight aligns with his mission to use accessible language and relatable content to promote public health awareness, especially among young Nigerians. Over the years, Aproko Doctor has gained massive followership for his creative, humorous, and factual approach to issues ranging from fitness and mental health to sexual wellness and chronic disease prevention.

Through his social media platforms and community outreach initiatives, Aproko Doctor has become a reliable voice in health education and social advocacy, bridging the gap between medical knowledge and everyday understanding. From initiating conversations around mental health stigmas to debunking harmful health myths, his influence continues to shape both online and offline discourse.

Earlier this year, he pledged to cover one-year health insurance for a woman who was mocked online for waking up at 4:50 a.m. to cook for her husband. He has also been active in panel discussions, summits, and health policy forums, often speaking about youth empowerment, health equity, and the role of digital media in shaping public behaviour.

Aproko Doctor’s message is a timely reminder of the transformational power of intentional conversations. He advocates for people—especially content creators, educators, and public figures—to leverage their platforms for good by influencing positive cultural shifts.

As Nigeria and other African societies navigate rapid technological change and cultural evolution, his emphasis on value-driven dialogue and storytelling is a clarion call to take ownership of the narratives that shape public consciousness.
