Dalung Predicts Defeat for President Tinubu in 2027, Regardless of Electoral Maneuvering
Former Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Solomon Dalung, has delivered a scathing critique of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, asserting that no amount of political manipulation will save it from defeat in the 2027 general elections—even if the president were to appoint his own son as head of the electoral commission.
Speaking during an interview on New Central on Friday, July 4, Dalung painted a bleak picture of Nigeria’s current socio-economic state under Tinubu’s leadership.

He accused the administration of exacerbating poverty, promoting injustice, and deepening the suffering of ordinary citizens.
“Nigerians should buckle up for 2027 because the battle line has been drawn. The government of President Bola Tinubu has declared war against the Nigerian people.
“The government has weaponized poverty, hunger, and hardship, and has popularised corruption, impunity, and injustice,” Dalung asserted.
He called on opposition political leaders to come together under a unified front to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming elections.
According to him, the coalition movement being championed on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) represents the best hope for rescuing the country from its current trajectory.

“The only option we have now is to align with the coalition movement, to reposition ourselves and confront the government in 2027,” he said.
Dalung maintained that Nigerians are growing increasingly disillusioned with the ruling party and will overwhelmingly reject the APC at the polls, regardless of any institutional interference or perceived control over electoral processes.
“Like I promised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Dalung emphasized, “even if all 36 state governors defect to the APC, even if he appoints his son, Seyi Tinubu, as Chairman of INEC, and maybe even appoints his wife as the Chief Justice of Nigeria—if INEC becomes the last institution to defect—he will still be defeated in 2027.”

The former minister’s remarks come amid growing momentum for a newly formed opposition coalition. Spearheaded by the ADC, the movement comprises prominent political figures, including former governors, ex-lawmakers, and past ministers, all working together to build a formidable alternative to the APC.
The coalition aims to harness collective political strength and public dissatisfaction to unseat the ruling party in the next general election cycle.
