The Women’s Commission of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has announced the launch of the second edition of its Women in Sport seminar series, a flagship initiative aimed at empowering female stakeholders across Nigeria’s sporting landscape.

In a statement released on Friday, July 4, 2025, by the Commission’s Public Relations Officer, Tony Nezianya, it was revealed that this year’s edition will be held across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, starting with the North West region.

Following the success of the inaugural edition, the 2025 seminar series will be expanded to cover Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, with a broader focus that now includes referees, umpires, and technical officials—reflecting a strategic push for inclusivity and capacity development within the sector.

Aligned with the theme of 2025 International Women’s Day, “Accelerate Action”, this year’s seminars will center on “Capacity Building in Sports”, targeting administrators, coaches, and the newly incorporated technical personnel.

The seminar will kick off in the North West zone from July 9 to 11, 2025, at the CBN Centre of Excellence, Business School, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. The next stop will be the North Central zone, from July 14 to 16, 2025, at the University of Jos.

Seasoned sports administrators, coaches, and technical experts have been lined up to deliver lectures and lead interactive workshops designed to enhance professional knowledge and leadership skills among participants.

According to the Commission, this initiative forms a key part of the NOC’s broader strategy to promote gender equity and prepare more women for leadership roles in Nigerian sports governance. The effort also aligns with the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) ongoing global campaign for increased female representation in sports administration.

The seminar schedule for the remaining zones—North East, South South, South East, and South West—has been slated for August 2025, with exact dates and venues to be announced in due course.

All interested women across Nigeria’s sports ecosystem are encouraged to participate in this unique professional development opportunity.

The project is being coordinated by Mrs. Kemi Obidahunsi, Secretary of the NOC Women’s Commission and a staff member of the Committee, while Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel, President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, is expected to formally declare the seminar open.
