The Chief Executive Officer of Ijele Sports Club, Ferdinand A. Naza (MCArb, UEFA CFM), has reflected on the club’s debut campaign in the Nigeria National League (NNL), describing it as a season of valuable lessons and unshakable resolve, despite the setback of relegation.
In a heartfelt end-of-season address to fans, players, and stakeholders, Naza acknowledged the disappointment of the Enugu-based club’s relegation to the Nationwide League One (NLO), but emphasized the growth and fighting spirit displayed throughout the campaign.
“As we wrap up a remarkable and eventful first season in the NNL, I write with a heart full of gratitude, humility, and renewed hope,” Naza said. “While the results did not always favour us, what remains indisputable is the courage, belief, and growth our team displayed in the face of numerous internal and external challenges.”

Naza cited factors such as logistical setbacks, inconsistent officiating, a challenging fixture schedule, and broader systemic issues within the league as key hurdles the club faced in its maiden professional campaign.
Ijele Sports Club now sets its sights on regrouping for the upcoming season in the Nationwide League One, with an eye firmly on promotion and long-term development.
One of the standout moments for Ijele SC came in their 2-0 triumph over Beyond Limit FC, the 2024 champions—a performance Naza described as “disciplined, dynamic, and determined,” showcasing the potential within the young squad and the tactical acumen of the coaching team.

Naza praised the club’s technical staff for their commitment and resilience: “You worked with limited resources yet continued to inspire our players. You have laid a strong foundation for what this club can become.”
He also expressed deep appreciation to the players, supporters, and sponsors for their roles in the club’s journey.
“To our fans, you are the heart of this club,” he added. “Whether at home in Enugu or away in distant towns across Nigeria, your chants, drumming, and presence lifted our spirits. You have shown that Ijele is more than just a team—it is a movement.”

Despite the drop to NLO 1, Naza affirmed the club’s commitment to a swift return to the NNL.
“Ijele will be back—stronger, better, wiser,” he declared. “We will restructure, reinforce, and rise. Together, we remain Ijele—the pride of the East, the heartbeat of the people.” Naza concluded.
