The Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 30-year-old man, Hussaini Abubakar, who has been accused of killing his biological mother in a gruesome attack that shocked the community of Gumel Local Government Area.

According to a police statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Lawan Adam, the disturbing incident occurred on the evening of Sunday, June 29, 2025, in Dantanoma Quarters, Gumel. The suspect allegedly assaulted his 75-year-old mother, Dahara Mu’azu, by repeatedly hitting her on the head with blocks of mud.

Police operatives from the Gumel Divisional Headquarters were alerted around 8:00 p.m. following a distress report of a violent altercation involving a mother and her son. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the elderly woman lying in a pool of blood, with severe injuries to her head. She was quickly rushed to Gumel General Hospital for emergency medical attention.

Despite efforts to save her, the victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead by a medical officer on duty the following day, Monday, June 30, 2025.

The suspect, Hussaini Abubakar, was promptly arrested and is currently in police custody. Authorities have confirmed that he is cooperating with investigators as the Command conducts a thorough and discreet investigation. He is expected to be charged to court once the investigative process is completed.

In response to the horrific event, the Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State, CP AT Abdullahi, condemned the crime in the strongest terms, labeling it as barbaric, inhuman, and deeply reprehensible.

He further instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to take over the case and ensure a swift and transparent pursuit of justice.

The police command used the opportunity to urge members of the public to remain vigilant and to report early warning signs of domestic violence or mental health instability to the nearest police station or local authorities. Such proactive measures, the Command emphasized, are vital in preventing tragic outcomes such as this.

“The Jigawa State Police Command remains fully committed to its duty of safeguarding lives, maintaining law and order, and securing justice for all victims of criminal acts within the state,” the statement concluded.
