The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is poised to make a series of key announcements this weekend, including the host nation for the 2026 African Nations Championship (CHAN), the venue for the 2025 CAF Awards, and the appointment of a new chairman for its Interclub Competitions Committee.

According to a statement released by CAF on it official website, the football governing body’s Executive Committee will convene in Rabat, Morocco, on Saturday where the decisions are expected to be officially ratified and made public.

The 2024 edition of CHAN, which was initially scheduled to take place in February this year, was postponed and is now set to be held in August 2025 from 2nd to 30th. The tournament jointly hosted by three East African nations — Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda will kick-off on Saturday, 02 August 2025 in Dar es Salaam with a fixture between co-host Tanzania and Burkina Faso at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium at 20h00 local time (17h00 GMT).

Attention will now shift to the 2026 edition, with CAF set to name a new host nation for the continental tournament exclusively reserved for players active in domestic African leagues.

In addition to CHAN-related decisions, the CAF Executive Committee will also announce the host city for the 2025 CAF Awards. The prestigious ceremony has been held in Marrakesh, Morocco for the past two years, honouring Africa’s finest talents, including Nigerian stars Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Asisat Oshoala, and Chiamaka Nnadozie.

Another key agenda item at the upcoming meeting is the appointment of a new chairman for the CAF Interclub Competitions Committee — a crucial role overseeing the continent’s top-tier club tournaments, including the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.

This weekend’s meeting in Rabat is expected to play a significant role in shaping the immediate future of African football across national team and club competitions, as well as individual honours.
