The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has officially released its timetable and schedule of activities for the conduct of its primary elections ahead of the 2025 National and State Assembly bye-elections.
The schedule, which aligns with the timetable of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), outlines key dates and procedures that will guide the party’s internal nomination processes.
According to a public notice issued by the National Organizing Secretary of APGA, Hon. Ifeanyi Mbaeri, from the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, the bye-elections are scheduled to take place in two senatorial districts, five federal constituencies, and nine state constituencies on August 16, 2025.
The timeline begins with the sale and submission of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms, which will run from July 3 to July 9, 2025. This phase will be followed by the screening of aspirants on July 12, while appeals arising from the screening are scheduled to be heard on July 13.
To ensure broad-based participation, ward congresses to elect ad-hoc delegates will be conducted across the affected electoral wards on July 15.
These delegates will in turn participate in the party primaries for the Senate, House of Representatives, and State Houses of Assembly, which are set for July 21, 2025. The party also allocated this date for resolving any internal disputes or appeals that may arise from the conduct of the primaries.
APGA outlined the cost of nomination forms as follows:
₦10 million for Senate aspirants,
₦6 million for those contesting for the House of Representatives,
₦2.5 million for aspirants vying for the State House of Assembly.
However, in a move aimed at promoting inclusiveness, the party has granted financial concessions to specific groups. Female aspirants and persons living with disabilities are entitled to a 50% reduction in the cost of both the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms.
All forms must be obtained from the APGA National Secretariat and can only be accessed through a non-refundable bank draft or manager’s cheque, made payable to the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
Aspirants are expected to submit completed forms along with proof of payment, their party membership cards, and relevant academic credentials.
In its notice, the party emphasized that it retains full discretion over the issuance of forms and candidate selection.
“The Party reserves the right and unfettered discretion to issue Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms to credible and eligible aspirants at any time before the scheduled primary election,” the statement read.
Furthermore, APGA noted that while the timetable reflects the current electoral calendar, the dates are subject to revision in line with evolving realities or official adjustments from the electoral commission.
“The dates specified above are subject to change. The Party reserves the right to make adjustments, provided such changes align with the INEC timetable,” Mbaeri added.
The party concluded by urging all intending aspirants to adhere strictly to its guidelines and conduct themselves in accordance with established rules throughout the electioneering process.
It reiterated its commitment to fairness, transparency, and upholding internal democracy throughout the 2025 bye-election nomination exercise.
