Nigerian music icon Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2Face or 2Baba, has issued a heartfelt apology following the backlash that trailed his recent controversial statement about male sexuality and monogamy. The 49-year-old singer found himself at the centre of a social media storm after declaring in a viral interview that “men are not sexually built to be with one woman.”

The statement, made during a sit-down with media personality Nedu Wazobia, triggered outrage among fans and critics alike, with many accusing 2Face of promoting infidelity and reinforcing harmful gender stereotypes. As the backlash intensified, the legendary singer took to Instagram on Wednesday morning, July 2, 2025, to publicly express regret over his words.

“I F**ked Up” – 2Face Admits

In a candid video posted to his verified Instagram handle, 2Face did not mince words as he owned up to the consequences of his comments. He acknowledged the public disappointment, the emotional toll on his wife Natasha, and the personal responsibility he must now bear.

“I know I have fked up with what I have said. I really, really fked up the way I said it,” he admitted.
“I’m going to pay with a heavy price. I’m going to face the consequences.”

2Face explained that while he intended to spark honest dialogue about male sexuality, his delivery was deeply flawed and unintentionally hurtful. He apologized specifically to his wife, Natasha, and admitted that his words were unbecoming of someone who has been called a “legend” in the music industry.

“Calling me a legend is an honor, but this my talk is quite unlegendly,” he said.
“The amount of response that I get has made me see how much people love and respect me. For me to now use stupid statements to cancel everything, that’s not who I am. I’m sorry.”

Following his apology, reactions on social media have been mixed. While some fans have accepted his statement and commended him for taking responsibility, others feel his comments reflect a deeper issue about the normalization of infidelity, especially among public figures.

Relationship experts and gender rights advocates have also weighed in, urging celebrities to be more cautious with their platforms. A few noted that 2Face’s comment could set a damaging example, particularly for younger fans still forming their views on relationships and commitment.

2Face, who has long been admired for his contributions to the Nigerian music industry and hits like African Queen and Implication, has had a history of public scrutiny concerning his personal life. His marriage to Natasha has weathered several storms, including allegations of infidelity and co-parenting with multiple partners.

The controversy has reignited the debate around celebrity responsibility, with many calling for artists to be more mindful of the influence they wield. Social media analyst Nneka Ogbu noted that while artists are entitled to personal opinions, public commentary—especially on sensitive issues like gender and relationships—must be handled with tact.

“In today’s cancel culture and hyper-aware society, there’s very little room for careless words. 2Face’s apology is welcome, but it’s a reminder that fame comes with accountability,” she said.

2Face’s apology, though sincere, underscores the need for public figures to lead with clarity, respect, and responsibility—especially when discussing issues that impact societal norms. Whether this moment marks a turning point for the veteran artist remains to be seen, but for now, it serves as a cautionary tale on the power of words.
