Fast-rising street-pop sensation Ayo Maff has publicly expressed heartfelt gratitude to Afro-soul singer Chike for what he described as a selfless and life-changing gesture during their collaboration on the hit single “Realness.”

In a recent statement shared on social media and confirmed in a press interview, Ayo Maff revealed that Chike not only featured on the track for free, but also went the extra mile by gifting him 100% of the royalties generated from the song.

“I didn’t pay him a dime for the verse. I never paid for a studio session, and he even showed up at my listening party to support me,” Ayo Maff said emotionally.
“As if that’s not enough, he gave me all the royalties on our song. I know he probably didn’t want me to tell the world, but I had to. The world deserves to know the kind of man he is.”

The song “Realness,” which blends street rhythms with soulful delivery, has rapidly gained traction on streaming platforms since its release, with fans praising the unique synergy between both artists. Industry analysts say the move by Chike has not only helped boost Ayo Maff’s career visibility but also highlighted a rare example of mentorship and generosity in the highly competitive Nigerian music industry.

Chike, best known for his hit songs Running (To You) and Roju, has built a reputation for blending meaningful lyrics with rich melodies. His collaboration with Ayo Maff was seen by many as an unexpected but powerful fusion of two contrasting music cultures — the refined soul-pop elegance of Chike and the raw, street-inspired passion of Ayo Maff.

The track “Realness” is part of Ayo Maff’s debut album “Prince of the Street,” which topped the Nigerian Apple Music charts shortly after release. The album narrates Maff’s journey from humble beginnings to national recognition, and the inclusion of a track with Chike — with all proceeds going to Maff — adds a symbolic layer to that journey.

“I’m so glad the song title is Realness,” Maff said. “Because what Chike did embodies what that word truly means — pure, authentic, selfless support. Not everyone would do that.”

Maff also hinted that the act has inspired him to support other young artists coming up behind him, noting that Chike’s kindness reminded him that success in the industry should be measured by more than just streams and charts.

In an industry often criticized for being cutthroat and exploitative, Chike’s gesture is being praised by fans, creatives, and music journalists as a model of industry integrity and collaboration. While most featured artists demand a cut of royalties, advance payments, or performance splits, Chike’s decision to forgo all financial benefits underscores the impact of artists helping each other without conditions.

Music commentator Tola Adebayo noted:

“What Chike did is not just rare; it’s revolutionary in Nigerian music. This is how legacies are built — not just through hits, but through how you help others rise.”

With this publicity and goodwill surrounding “Realness,” both Ayo Maff and Chike are expected to reap more than just streaming numbers. The collaboration has already sparked talks of a possible joint project or live performance tour. While Chike has not yet responded publicly to Maff’s tribute, sources close to him say he was simply happy to help without seeking the spotlight.
