The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared its resolve to wrestle power from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State during the 2027 general elections.

This commitment was made during a strategic meeting held in Igboho, under the banner of “Operation Recapture Oyo State”, which brought together APC stalwarts from the 10 local government areas of the Oke-Ogun region.

Addressing party faithful at the meeting, Chief Iyiola Oladokun, a former Deputy Governor and senior APC figure in the state, strongly criticised the PDP-led administration for what he described as gross mismanagement and neglect of key areas across Oyo, especially the Oke-Ogun zone.

He lamented the region’s deteriorating condition, citing widespread refuse dumps, uncompleted roads, blocked drainage channels, and increasing cases of kidnapping.

According to him, “Oyo State has lost its place as a pacesetter due to the failure of the current administration. The people of Oke-Ogun, in particular, have been abandoned. We cannot afford to let this continue.”

Party leaders unanimously agreed that the time had come for a total political turnaround. They directed members across the state to intensify grassroots mobilisation, educate citizens on the importance of participating in the electoral process, and ensure mass acquisition of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

“We have learnt from our past mistakes. Now, we are fully prepared to re-establish a progressive and people-centered government in Oyo State by 2027,” Chief Oladokun assured.

Additionally, the meeting called for a fair power shift within the state, advocating that the Oke-Ogun zone should be given priority in selecting candidates for both the governorship and senatorial seats in the next election cycle.

In a show of unity and support, the Oyo State APC Peace Advocate Group—which comprises former speakers of the State House of Assembly, ex-legislators, and other former political office holders—paid a solidarity visit to the gathering. The group advised all aspirants and their supporters to engage in peaceful campaigns and work in harmony to strengthen the party’s position ahead of the elections.

Notable attendees at the meeting included former Deputy Governors Chief Adeyemo Alake and Engineer Rauf Olaniyan, former Minister of Communications Barrister Adebayo Shittu, as well as several incumbent and former federal and state lawmakers.

The meeting concluded with a unanimous vote of confidence in the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. APC leaders reaffirmed their loyalty to his leadership and declared their support for his potential re-election bid in 2027.
