Entries for this year’s edition opened on June 24 and will close on August 22. The competition is open to teachers in both public and private secondary schools across Nigeria.

The Maltina Teacher of the Year initiative was established to recognise, celebrate, and reward outstanding educators who have demonstrated excellence, dedication, and innovation in their profession. Over the years, it has grown into a highly respected platform for spotlighting the transformative role teachers play in shaping society.

Speaking at the launch, the Managing Director of Nigerian Breweries, represented by the Corporate Affairs Director, Uzodinma Odenigbo, reaffirmed the company’s long-standing commitment to supporting education and honouring the vital contributions of teachers. He described the initiative as a “transformative platform” that aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 – Quality Education.

Odenigbo expressed deep appreciation for the collaboration with key educational bodies including the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), and the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS). He acknowledged their consistent support as instrumental in enhancing the credibility and national reach of the competition.

Also speaking at the event, Sarah Agha, the Marketing Director of Nigerian Breweries, noted that beyond offering monetary rewards, the initiative has significantly elevated the status of the teaching profession, promoted community impact, and contributed meaningfully to Nigeria’s educational development.

For the 2025 edition, Odenigbo announced that the overall winner will receive a trophy, a cash prize of ₦10 million, an international capacity-building training, and a ₦30 million infrastructure project for their school. Additionally, the first runner-up will receive ₦5 million and a trophy, while the second runner-up will take home ₦3 million and a trophy. All State Champions will be awarded ₦1 million each and a commemorative plaque.

Representatives of the NUT, TRCN, and ANCOPSS present at the ceremony praised Nigerian Breweries and the Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund for their unwavering dedication to improving the educational landscape.
