Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, has declared unwavering support for the position taken by the National Working Committee (NWC), the Board of Trustees (BoT), and the South East Zonal Executive Committee (ZEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) amid the ongoing internal crisis troubling the party.

Speaking to journalists after a closed-door meeting held at the Enugu Government House on Sunday, June 29, 2025, Governor Mbah underscored his alignment with the resolutions adopted by the South East PDP leaders.

The meeting had in attendance key party stakeholders, including the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde; PDP BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara; South East Zonal Chairman, Chief Ali Odefa; and other notable party chieftains.

The Enugu governor expressed his full endorsement of the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party, scheduled for Monday, June 30th, stating that although he remains a member of the PDP, he is increasingly disillusioned by what he described as the “shenanigans” that have turned the party into a “never-ending circus.”

“To be clear, while I still identify as a member of the PDP, I must admit that I am utterly fed up with the persistent antics and infighting that continue to define the party’s operations. It is exhausting and counterproductive,” Mbah stated candidly.

He emphasized that the collective position of the South East Zonal Executive Committee, particularly regarding the National Secretaryship of the party, must not be taken lightly. Mbah warned that failure by the national leadership to honour the zone’s stance could compel the South East to reconsider its continued affiliation with the party.

Reaffirming a recent communique issued at the South East PDP Zonal meeting in Enugu, the governor insisted that the zone’s position on the National Secretary issue remains “sacrosanct” and non-negotiable. “The South East, which I am part of, has the constitutional and moral right to evaluate its participation in the PDP should the party continue to ignore our legitimate concerns,” he said.

Governor Mbah recalled that this same position had been articulated during his recent interaction with members and fellows of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, held in Enugu over the weekend. He reiterated that the decision of the South East to defend its rightful place in the party hierarchy should not be undermined or dismissed.

“In truth, the communique released at the last South East Zonal meeting clearly stated that the region would not tolerate any sidelining of its interests, particularly on the matter of the National Secretary. Unfortunately, this has not been accorded the respect it deserves,” he concluded.

Prominent PDP leaders present at the Enugu meeting included former PDP National Chairman and BoT member, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo; Senator Sam Egwu; former Minister, Iyom Josephine Anenih; Senator Ben Obi; and former PDP National Youth Leader, Hon. Udeh-Okoye, among others.
