AEK Athens head coach Marko Nikolic has firmly dismissed speculation surrounding a potential move for Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers, the Nigeria international who has been linked with a transfer to the Greek Super League champions.

Despite reports suggesting Dessers had agreed to personal terms with AEK Athens, Nikolic emphasized that the club is not actively seeking a new striker.

“We are good with Zini, Pierrot, Martial, and even Eliasson,” Nikolic stated, highlighting his confidence in the team’s current attacking lineup. The Serbian coach acknowledged that the club is working on signing a new left-back, but noted that finding suitable full-backs can be challenging. “Full-backs on the market are always a difficult matter. It is not a big issue, we are also looking for a player for another position,” he added.

Dessers, 30, had an impressive season with Rangers, topping the Scottish Premiership scoring charts with 18 goals. His potential transfer had generated significant interest, but Nikolic’s comments suggest that AEK Athens is prioritizing other positions in the transfer market. With the club focusing on strengthening other areas of the team, it appears Dessers’ move to AEK Athens is unlikely to materialize.

In a separate development, European football has been abuzz with exciting transfer news and match results. Ajax is reportedly ready to sell Chuba Akpom, while Swedish club AIK Stockholm has signed promising Nigerian midfielder Zadok Yohanna. Trabzonspor is set to welcome Paul Onuachu for medical tests, further highlighting the active transfer market involving Nigerian talents.

As the football world continues to evolve, clubs like AEK Athens are carefully navigating the transfer landscape, prioritizing strategic signings that align with their objectives. For AEK Athens, the focus remains on bolstering their squad while leveraging the strengths of their existing players, including their attacking unit.
