Nigerian international Paul Onuachu is expected to undergo a medical examination on Monday ahead of his permanent transfer to Turkish Süper Lig side Trabzonspor.

The development comes after Southampton confirmed that they had reached an agreement with Trabzonspor for the transfer of the 31-year-old striker, bringing an end to protracted negotiations that had dragged on for several weeks.

Onuachu’s move to Trabzonspor marks a significant coup for the Turkish club, who had identified him as a key target for their 2025/26 Süper Lig campaign. The striker is understood to have already agreed personal terms with the club and had been pushing for the move to materialize.

Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan had publicly expressed his exasperation with Southampton’s handling of the transfer talks, citing the English club’s high valuation and constant changes in management as complicating factors in the negotiations.

Onuachu spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Trabzonspor, where he scored 17 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions, becoming a fan favorite and helping the club finish third in the Süper Lig.

Despite their efforts, Trabzonspor failed to secure his permanent transfer last summer due to Southampton’s high valuation, but the deal has now been revived following intense negotiations between the two clubs.

The Nigerian striker joined Southampton from Belgian Pro League outfit KRC Genk in January 2023 but struggled for consistency in the Premier League, scoring four goals in 36 league appearances for the Saints. However, his time in Turkey revitalized his form and confidence, making this move a logical next step for both player and club.

After Southampton’s announcement, Onuachu wasted no time sending a message to his Trabzonspor fans, saying, “I missed you. I know you missed me too. I’m back, stronger, more prepared, and hungrier to score goals. We still have unfinished business.” This statement underscores his commitment to the club and his determination to make a significant impact in the upcoming season.
