The National Judicial Council (NJC) has dismissed petitions filed by Abdullahi Baffa Bichi against two judges of the Federal High Court sitting in Kano, citing a lack of merit in the allegations.

The decision was made at the conclusion of the Council’s 109th meeting, held on June 25, 2025. The session was presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of the NJC, Hon. Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, GCON.

In an official statement released following the meeting, the NJC announced that it had carefully reviewed several petitions and complaints brought before it. These included a joint petition against Hon. Justices A. M. Liman and S. A. Amobeda, as well as a separate petition against Hon. Justice Muhammad Auwal Haruna.

According to the Council, both petitions were voluntarily withdrawn by the complainant and consequently dismissed due to the absence of credible evidence to support the claims.

Although the statement did not detail the specific nature of the allegations made against the judges, the Council disclosed that it had deliberated on a total of five petitions.

These included complaints relating to judicial appointments in the High Courts of Plateau and Kano States, as well as appointments into the Sharia Courts of Appeal in Zamfara and Katsina States.

Reaffirming its constitutional mandate, the NJC emphasized its unwavering commitment to upholding judicial accountability and integrity across the Nigerian judiciary. It, however, warned against the rising trend of baseless and malicious petitions aimed at tarnishing the image of judicial officers.

“The Council will continue to ensure that judges are held accountable where necessary, but will not tolerate frivolous complaints intended to intimidate or malign the bench,” the statement concluded.
