Award-winning Nigerian singer Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2Face or 2Baba, has made startling revelations about his tumultuous marriage to Nollywood actress Annie Macaulay-Idibia. In a snippet from an upcoming episode of the +234 Mzansi Podcast, 2Face described his marital experience as one of emotional captivity and even hinted that his life was under threat during that period.

The music icon, revered for his timeless hit African Queen, opened up while responding to a question about the emotional toll of his high-profile breakup. Speaking candidly, he said, “This thing wey dem call ‘living in bondage’ is real. There were some people who were ready to kill me.”

2Face and Annie officially tied the knot in May 2012 after years of an on-and-off relationship. The couple, once celebrated as a symbol of celebrity love enduring trials, have two daughters—Isabella and Olivia. However, behind the glamour and social media adoration, their relationship was fraught with controversy, emotional breakdowns, and public outbursts.

The couple’s marital troubles made headlines several times over the years, from allegations of infidelity to dramatic Instagram posts and accusations of disrespect from both parties. The final blow came on January 26, 2025, when 2Face publicly announced his separation from Annie via a controversial social media post. The announcement shocked fans but also seemed to confirm years of speculation about cracks in their union.

In the months following the split, 2Face began appearing publicly with Natasha Osawuru, a lawmaker in the Edo State House of Assembly. Sources close to the singer hinted that Natasha had been in his life long before the divorce was finalized, though neither party has confirmed when the relationship began.

What’s more telling is that 2Face seems to have found peace and stability in his new relationship. The same man who once sang emotionally about love and heartbreak is now seen attending public events with Natasha and even featured with her at a dinner hosted by Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, who recently appointed the singer as a Special Adviser on Arts, Culture, and Tourism.

Meanwhile, Annie has also broken her silence in her own way. In a recent post on her verified Instagram account, she referred to her “backbone” and hinted at betrayal, although she did not mention names. She has continued to focus on her acting career and her children, urging fans to respect her privacy.

Public reaction to 2Face’s comments has been mixed. While some sympathize with his claims of being emotionally trapped, others have accused him of attempting to rewrite the narrative in his favour after years of alleged infidelity and absenteeism as a partner.

Entertainment analyst Chuka Daniels told Daily Post Nigeria, “Both Annie and 2Face went through a highly publicized and likely toxic relationship. But it’s unusual to hear a man of 2Face’s status describe marriage as bondage. It speaks to deeper issues—perhaps mental health, lack of emotional compatibility, or simply the price of fame.”

As the full podcast episode is set to air later this week, fans are bracing for more revelations. The podcast, co-hosted by popular Nigerian comedian Nedu, alongside Acapella and South African media personality Kifilwe, is known for its bold, unfiltered conversations with celebrities.
