Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, in collaboration with Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have recorded a significant victory in the ongoing fight against armed banditry in Taraba State.
A successful clearance operation was carried out in Ussa Local Government Area, resulting in the neutralization of one armed bandit and the recovery of several weapons and equipment.
This development was made known in a statement issued on Saturday by the Brigade’s Public Relations Officer, Captain Olubodunde Oni. According to the statement, the operation was initiated following credible intelligence reports on the movement of suspected bandits within the area.
Acting on the intelligence, troops stationed at Kwesati were swiftly deployed and strategically positioned along a route suspected to be used by the criminals for movement and escape. During the mission, the troops encountered the bandits and engaged them in a fierce exchange of gunfire.
“The troops brought superior firepower to bear, which overwhelmed the criminals. The intensity of the encounter forced the bandits to retreat in disarray, with many believed to have sustained gunshot injuries as they fled into the nearby forest,” the statement read.
In the aftermath of the confrontation, the troops conducted a comprehensive sweep of the area. During the search, they recovered one AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine loaded with three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a motorcycle suspected to have been used by the fleeing criminals, and two mobile phones.
Commending the soldiers for their bravery and professionalism, the Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, praised the troops for their discipline, tactical precision, and courage under fire.
He emphasized the Brigade’s unwavering commitment to sustaining offensive operations against criminal elements in Taraba State until peace and security are fully restored.
General Uwa also called on residents of the state to continue supporting the military by providing accurate and timely intelligence. He stressed that community cooperation is vital in ensuring the complete eradication of banditry and other forms of criminal activity in the region.
