The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed its Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori, as the Acting National Chairman of the party.

This development follows the sudden resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who stepped down from the position on Thursday, citing personal and health-related reasons.

Dalori, a political ally of Vice President Kashim Shettima and a prominent figure from Borno State, is expected to serve in an acting capacity until a substantive National Chairman is elected. The decision was confirmed in a statement issued by APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.

According to Morka, Ganduje’s resignation took immediate effect and was submitted through a letter addressed to the National Working Committee (NWC) via the party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru. The letter expressed Ganduje’s appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for granting him the opportunity to lead the ruling party at the national level.

“In his resignation letter, Dr. Ganduje conveyed his gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief for the privilege to serve,” Morka stated. “President Tinubu has subsequently directed Dalori to step in as Acting National Chairman pending a formal meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC), which will be convened soon to appoint a permanent replacement.”

Dr. Ganduje, who hails from the North-West geopolitical zone, took over the APC’s leadership in August 2023 after the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu from the North-Central region. However, his tenure was mired in internal disputes, particularly concerning the party’s zoning arrangements, which many believed his appointment had disrupted.

While the official explanation for Ganduje’s departure revolves around health concerns and a desire to attend to pressing personal matters, multiple party insiders have suggested that his exit may be connected to growing internal dissatisfaction and controversies surrounding his leadership style.

Party sources claim that over recent months, Ganduje faced mounting pressure over allegations of financial misconduct. Some APC members reportedly expressed frustration over what they described as “unjustified financial demands” linked to his office, further fueling speculation about the real reasons behind his sudden exit.

Prior to becoming APC National Chairman, Ganduje served two terms as Governor of Kano State from 2015 to 2023. In January 2025, he was appointed Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) by President Tinubu.

The APC is now expected to move quickly to stabilize the party’s leadership and address the concerns raised during Ganduje’s brief and controversial tenure.
