The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, has pledged to intervene decisively with the appropriate authorities to ensure the swift completion of major developmental projects in Oyo town.

These include the long-delayed Durbar Stadium, the annex of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital within the State Hospital, and other critical infrastructural works aimed at enhancing the well-being of residents and boosting the town’s socio-economic landscape.

Oba Owoade gave this assurance on Thursday when he received a delegation from the Oyo Alaafin in Diaspora group at his palace in Oyo. The delegation was led by the United Kingdom-based medical practitioner and Vice-Chairman of the organisation, Dr. Ademola Adeleke.

In his remarks, Oba Owoade stated his readiness to act as a bridge between the people and government, adding that he would use his royal influence to advocate for timely governmental intervention and commitment to the completion of these strategic projects. According to the monarch, the successful execution of these initiatives is vital for the growth and modernization of the ancient town.

Dr. Adeleke, during the visit, passionately urged the monarch to use his position to lobby relevant state and federal agencies to prioritise the completion of the Durbar Stadium and the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital annex. He emphasized that these projects hold great significance for the development of healthcare and sports infrastructure in Oyo and will positively impact both the local and diaspora communities.

The visit, according to Dr. Adeleke, also served a dual purpose. Apart from highlighting the concerns of the diaspora, it was also to extend heartfelt appreciation to Oba Owoade for his unwavering support to Oyo indigenes living abroad. L

He described the monarch as a symbol of purposeful leadership and royal integrity, especially as he approaches his 50th birthday—a landmark he said reflects a life of honour, service, and dedication to the progress of his people.

The interaction between the monarch and the diaspora community reflects growing collaboration between traditional institutions and global citizens of Oyo origin to foster sustainable development in the historic town.
