With Eyes on 10th Title, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Appoints Mary Akinsola as Super Falcons’ Media Officer Ahead of 2025 WAFCON in Morocco

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced the appointment of Mary Akinsola as the new media officer for the Super Falcons, Nigeria’s senior women’s national football team. The announcement was made through an official statement issued by the federation on Thursday.

Akinsola assumes the role as the Super Falcons intensify preparations for the upcoming 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), scheduled to take place in Morocco from July 5 to 26. Nigeria, nine-time champions of the tournament, will be aiming to clinch their 10th title at the continental showpiece.

The Super Falcons have been drawn into Group B, where they will face Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria in the group stage. Currently, the team is in Casablanca, Morocco, undergoing final preparations. As part of their build-up to the competition, the Falcons are set to play one last friendly match against Ghana on June 29.

Mary Akinsola brings over a decade of professional experience in media, communication, and sports management to her new role. Her career spans both local and international platforms, reflecting a deep commitment to sports journalism and broadcasting.

She has worked with several notable organizations across the globe, including Warner Bros Discovery (Eurosport), where she served as a production and commentary coordinator. Akinsola also held editorial and digital media management roles at Sportsgazette UK, and contributed to ACLSports as both a writer and podcast host.

On the home front, Akinsola made significant contributions to sports broadcasting through her work with the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS), where she functioned as a sportscaster, writer, and producer.

Akinsola holds a master’s degree in International Sports Journalism from St. Mary’s University, London — a qualification that underlines her expertise and enhances her capacity to professionally represent and promote the Super Falcons in the international media space.

Her appointment is seen as a strategic move by the NFF to enhance the team’s media outreach and public relations as Nigeria seeks continental glory once again.
