In a defiant tone, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei declared that Iran will “never surrender” to the United States. This statement comes two days after a ceasefire was agreed upon between Iran and Israel, marking the end of a 12-day war that saw significant exchanges of fire between the two nations.
Khamenei’s remarks were made during a televised speech, where he claimed victory over the US and Israel, highlighting Iran’s missile attack on a US airbase in Qatar as a significant retaliatory measure.
“The US President [Donald] Trump unveiled the truth and made it clear that Americans won’t be satisfied with anything less than surrender of Iran… such an event will never happen,” Khamenei asserted, emphasizing Iran’s unwavering stance against US demands.
He further criticized Trump’s claims about the impact of US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, stating that the attacks “did nothing significant” to Iran’s nuclear facilities. According to Khamenei, the US “gained nothing from this war,” and Iran’s nuclear program remains largely intact.
The extent of damage inflicted on Iranian nuclear sites during the conflict remains a point of contention. While Trump claimed that the US strikes “obliterated” Iran’s key nuclear sites, Khamenei dismissed these claims as exaggerations.
Resul Serdar, reporting from Tehran, noted that Khamenei focused on congratulating the country’s armed forces and countered claims that the army suffered significant blows from Israeli attacks. The Iranian supreme leader also warned that if Israel attacks again, it will face further destruction.
Despite the ceasefire, there is a prevailing sense of anxiety among Iranians, with many believing that this might not be the end of the conflict. Serdar observed that Iranians are questioning the efficiency of their air defense systems and fear potential future attacks from the US and Israel.
