Sprint legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce announced that the upcoming Jamaica National Championships will mark her final appearance at Kingston’s National Stadium, as she prepares to retire at the end of the 2025 season.

The emotional revelation came during a star-studded cocktail reception hosted by Nike in her honor at the AC Hotel in Jamaica on Monday night, celebrating her illustrious career and indelible impact on track and field.

Fraser-Pryce, a five-time World 100m champion, addressed a distinguished gathering that included Prime Minister Andrew Holness, GraceKennedy CEO Frank James, Nike executives, MVP Track Club president Bruce James, and her family, including husband Jason Pryce and son Zyon.

“In the next two days, it will be my final time gracing the National Stadium,” she said. “Honestly, it’s one of those moments I’m looking forward to because I have absolutely nothing to lose and all to gain.”

The 38-year-old sprint icon’s career began with a 4x100m relay medal at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka, launching a journey that redefined women’s sprinting.

Fraser-Pryce secured three Olympic gold medals, including historic back-to-back 100m titles in 2008 and 2012, a World Indoor 60m crown, and five World Championship 100m golds, amassing 10 World Championship medals overall. As the third-fastest woman in history, she has been honored multiple times as Jamaica’s Sportswoman of the Year.

Reflecting on her roots, Fraser-Pryce credited her nation for fueling her passion. “I’ve always said that I’m the daughter of the soil,” she said. “I’m a proud Jamaican because you have shown me love in the ups, in the downs, and it is you who have helped nurture me and give me that spirit of pride and unwavering support.”

As Fraser-Pryce prepares for her final race at the National Stadium, fans and admirers anticipate an emotional farewell to one of Jamaica’s greatest sporting heroes, whose legacy will inspire generations to come.
