Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the outer city zone of Ibadanland, Oyo State, have strongly advised Governor Seyi Makinde to embrace prudent fiscal management and ensure the efficient use of the state’s vast resources.

They warned against what they described as wasteful spending and unchecked financial recklessness by the current administration.

The caution comes amid rising public concerns surrounding two major financial commitments recently undertaken by the Makinde administration: the proposed renovation of the Agodi Government House at an estimated cost of ₦63.5 billion, and the acquisition of an Instrument Landing System (ILS) for the Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, at a cost of ₦14.3 billion.

According to the APC stakeholders, the state government had already paid ₦42 billion upfront as the full project cost for the airport’s upgrade at the inception of the project, and subsequently disbursed an additional ₦10 billion. They questioned the rationale behind these enormous expenditures and demanded more accountability from the government.

In a communique issued at the conclusion of the APC’s quarterly stakeholders’ meeting—held on Wednesday at the party’s secretariat along New Ife Road, Egbeda Local Government Area—the party leaders accused Governor Makinde of consistently ignoring due process in governance.

They described his administration as being entangled in what they called “unprecedented levels of financial recklessness and extravagance.”

The communique further stated: “To be clear, Oyo State cannot be considered financially buoyant at this time, despite the fact that Governor Makinde receives over ₦22 billion in monthly federal allocations, in addition to nearly ₦10 billion in internally generated revenue.

“With the state’s debt profile now estimated at around ₦500 billion, the administration continues to engage in unsustainable spending, rather than adopting policies that would secure the state’s long-term economic stability. We receive significant allocations as a result of the removal of fuel subsidies by the Federal Government, yet we fail to save for future exigencies.”

The communique was jointly signed by notable APC figures in the state including Alhaji Kamorudeen Ajisafe JP, Alhaji Rasaki Akilapa, Chief Lekan Adeyemo, Alhaji Sule Suara, Alhaji Isiaka Alimi, Hon. Kunle Jenrade, Comrade Moshood Erubami, Hon. Muniru Adebayo, Alhaji Yinka Folarin, and Bashorun Billy Ogundele.

Also present at the meeting was Senator Yunus Akintunde, who represents Oyo Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly. He expressed solidarity with the party’s leadership and pledged continued support for their objectives.

One of the highlights of the meeting was the presentation by a group of senior party members under the banner of APC Peace Advocates, led by Chief Wale Ohu and Prince Niran Adeyoju. The group emphasized the need for unity, internal cohesion, and mutual respect among party faithful, stressing that these values are essential for the APC’s return to power in the 2027 general elections.

Other prominent members of the APC Peace Advocates present at the meeting included Dr. Akin Onigbinde (SAN), Dr. Adepeju Esan, Alhaji Bayo Haruna, Prince Gbade Lana, Hon. Hamzat Ogunsola, and Engineer Adewale Adeoye.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment among party leaders to intensify efforts towards rebuilding trust, reenergizing the grassroots, and ensuring that the APC remains a strong and competitive force in Oyo State politics.
