Preliminary information suggested that at least ten people had died, the exact number of casualties could not yet be determined, as FRSC personnel were still compiling and verifying reports from the scene.
A devastating road accident has claimed the lives of no fewer than ten individuals along the Ibadan–Lagos Expressway on Tuesday, sending shockwaves through the region and raising renewed concerns about road safety along the busy corridor.
The fatal crash reportedly involved a total of six vehicles—three commercial Nissan Micra taxis and three articulated trucks, commonly referred to as trailers. All the vehicles were said to be travelling from the Iwo Road axis in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, before the tragic collision occurred.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as horrific, with the wreckage of the vehicles severely mangled from the impact. Emergency responders and passersby struggled to rescue survivors, and the mutilated remains of victims were still being extracted from the twisted metal at the time this report was filed.
Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Oyo State, Rosary Alo, stated that officials of the Corps were actively involved in rescue operations at the crash site.
She noted that while preliminary information suggested that at least ten people had died, the exact number of casualties could not yet be determined, as FRSC personnel were still compiling and verifying reports from the scene.
She added that efforts were ongoing to manage traffic, ensure the safety of other road users, and transport the injured to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment.
This tragic accident once again highlights the dangers posed by high-speed travel, reckless driving, and poor vehicle maintenance on Nigeria’s major highways. Authorities are expected to launch a full investigation into the incident to determine its cause and to propose necessary preventive measures.
