Two Children Electrocuted to Death

Tragedy struck over the weekend in the Ilasamaja area of Lagos State as two young individuals, including a 9-year-old boy named Chinemerem and another person identified only as Qudus, lost their lives after being electrocuted.

The heartbreaking incident occurred on Friday, June 20, 2025, around 5:00 p.m., when the victims reportedly came into contact with an exposed live electrical wire within their residential premises. Eyewitnesses and local residents expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as a devastating occurrence that has shaken the community.

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, issued a formal statement on Monday, June 23, 2025. According to him, the case was initially reported to the Ilasamaja Police Division at approximately 9:44 p.m. on the day of the incident by a complainant, who narrated that his 9-year-old nephew, Chinemerem, and one Qudus were both electrocuted after coming in contact with a bare electrical wire at home.

“Upon receiving the report, police officers from the Ilasamaja Division immediately swung into action,” CSP Hundeyin stated. “A team of detectives was dispatched to the scene of the incident to conduct a preliminary investigation.”

He added that the victims were rushed to a nearby hospital in a desperate attempt to save their lives. Unfortunately, both were pronounced dead upon arrival by the attending physician.

In line with standard procedure, police officials also visited the hospital for further verification. The bodies of the deceased were inspected and subsequently deposited at a public morgue, where autopsies are expected to be carried out to confirm the precise cause of death.

The police spokesperson emphasized the importance of public safety and urged residents to ensure that all electrical installations within their premises are properly insulated and maintained to prevent such tragedies.

The incident has left the local community in mourning, with many calling for stricter regulations and more proactive measures to ensure the safety of electrical infrastructure in residential areas.
