Direct talks between the two sides last month yielded little progress, and Kyiv has accused Moscow of deliberately sabotaging a peace deal to prolong its offensive and seize more territory.

Russia and Ukraine have engaged in a series of drone attacks, resulting in casualties and heightened tensions between the two nations. On Tuesday, Russia launched drone strikes on several areas of Ukraine, killing at least three people near the shared border. The attacks were part of a larger escalation of hostilities, with Ukraine also stepping up its drone attacks on Russian targets.

A Russian drone attack on a village in Sumy, Ukraine, resulted in the deaths of an eight-year-old boy and two adults, with three others injured.

Additionally, drone strikes wounded five people in Kharkiv and four others in the Dnipropetrovsk region. These attacks came a day after a “massive” missile and drone strike on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, killed at least 10 people.

The military administration of the Sumy region described the impact of the attack, stating, “The strike took the lives of people from different families. They all lived on the same street. They went to sleep in their homes. But Russian drones interrupted their sleep – forever.” In response to the escalations, Ukrainian authorities have been working to mitigate the damage and casualties.

In a reciprocal action, Ukraine’s drone attacks targeted a wide range of Russian sites, including a residential building in Moscow.

The attack wounded two people, including a pregnant woman, and triggered a fire on the 17th floor of the building in Krasnogorsk, west of the capital. Governor Andrei Vorobyov of the Moscow region reported that about 100 people were evacuated, including 30 children, and the injured were receiving hospital treatment.

Russia’s air defense units claimed to have destroyed 20 Ukrainian drones overnight, including two over the Moscow region. The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has resulted in significant human suffering and material damage, with Russia currently occupying about a fifth of Ukraine’s territory.

The efforts of the United States to broker a ceasefire have stalled, with Russia appearing to take advantage of the distraction caused by the war between Israel and Iran. US President Donald Trump had promised to swiftly end the war but has not yet achieved a ceasefire through his diplomatic attempts.

Direct talks between the two sides last month yielded little progress, and Kyiv has accused Moscow of deliberately sabotaging a peace deal to prolong its offensive and seize more territory.
