The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as the Amotekun Corps, has confirmed the arrest of one of the individuals involved in the gruesome killing of Hon. Nelson Adepoyigi, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 5, Ose Local Government Area.
IREPORT247NEWS reported that Hon. Adepoyigi was abducted on the evening of Monday, May 12, 2025, at his residence in Ifon town, located within the Ose Local Government Area. Eyewitnesses reported that the incident occurred around 10 p.m. while the politician was attempting to park his vehicle.
A group of armed assailants, reportedly wielding sticks and other deadly weapons, stormed his compound, forcefully overpowered him, and dragged him away. His wife, who was inside the house at the time, rushed outside after hearing her husband’s distress cries, only to find he had already been taken.
Tragically, despite the payment of a ₦5 million ransom, Hon. Adepoyigi was reportedly murdered by his captors. The case sparked public outrage and prompted intensified security efforts to track down those responsible. Read here.
On Monday, June 23, 2025, the Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, paraded the arrested suspect alongside 31 other individuals apprehended for various crimes across the state. Speaking at the Corps’ headquarters in Akure, the state capital, Adeleye disclosed that the suspect had confessed to the crime during interrogation.
“The prime suspect involved in the killing of the APC ward chairman in Ose has been arrested and has confessed to the crime,” Adeleye stated. He added that during the course of the investigation, the suspect led Amotekun operatives into the forest, where some personal items stolen from the victim’s family were recovered.
More significantly, the suspect took them to the location where Adepoyigi’s remains had been dumped. The body was recovered and subsequently handed over to the family for burial.
In addition to the breakthrough in the Adepoyigi case, Adeleye also provided updates on broader security operations being carried out across Ondo State. He announced that 32 suspects were being paraded for various offenses, including kidnapping, robbery, and illegal possession of weapons.
Among those under investigation are 35-year-old Ali, 30-year-old Habeeb, 45-year-old Bobade, 25-year-old Shedrak, 25-year-old Adamu, 20-year-old Adelewa, 40-year-old Suleiman, 20-year-old Mohamed, and two 18-year-olds—Suleiman Isiaka and Husseini.
These individuals were reportedly arrested in forested regions such as Ute-Owo Forest, Jugbere Forest, and Ipele, all within Owo Local Government Area.
“These 32 suspects were apprehended from different parts of the state’s 18 local government areas for violating existing state laws,” Adeleye noted.
In a related development, the Amotekun Corps Commander provided an update on efforts to maintain peace in the restive Aladada area of Akure North Local Government. He affirmed that the special task force deployed to restore order in the region remains fully active.
“I want to place on record that the task force stationed in the Aladada axis is still operational,” Adeleye stated. “Our Amotekun Rangers are working in collaboration with officers from various security agencies, both within and outside the area.”
He went on to say that the efforts have yielded results: “In the past 14 days, we’ve recorded no incidents of attacks on farmers or residents in Ago-Oyinbo, Ago-Dada, or along the Environ power line—areas previously known for repeated assaults.”
