A massive Russian drone and missile attack has hit Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, killing at least six people and injuring many more. The attack targeted residential areas in numerous districts across the city, with officials describing it as one of the most terrifying strikes on the capital.
Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, said the attack was part of Russia’s unchanged style of hitting areas where people are likely to be present. “Another massive attack on the capital. Possibly, several waves of enemy drones,” Tkachenko stated. “Residential buildings, exits from shelters – this is the Russian style.”
The attack caused significant damage, with six out of Kyiv’s 10 districts affected and at least 10 people wounded. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported that four people were killed in the Shevchenkivskyi district, where a residential high-rise building was destroyed. “There are still people under the rubble,” Klymenko added.
This attack comes amid heightened tensions, with Russia launching hundreds of drones and firing missiles at Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Moscow of deliberately sabotaging efforts towards agreeing a peace deal. In response, Ukraine’s commander-in-chief, Oleksandr Syrskii, has pledged to intensify strikes on Russian military targets. “We will not just sit in defence. Because this brings nothing and eventually leads to the fact that we still retreat, lose people and territories,” Syrskii said.

The conflict has resulted in thousands of civilian casualties, with the UN reporting over 10,000 civilians killed since the invasion began in February 2022. Russia’s actions have been widely condemned, and Ukrainian officials are seeking increased military support from Western partners to counter the escalating attacks.
