President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed profound sorrow and outrage over the wave of recent tragic incidents that have struck different parts of Nigeria, particularly in Borno, Plateau, and Kano States.

In a statement issued on Sunday, June 22, the President described the series of attacks and accidents as deeply disturbing and unacceptable.

“I am deeply saddened and outraged by the recent events that have shaken our nation,” President Tinubu stated. “From the cowardly suicide bombing in Konduga, Borno State, to the horrifying lynching of innocent travellers in Plateau State, and the deadly explosion at a scrap facility in Kano — these attacks on innocent lives are unconscionable and must never be tolerated.”

The President condemned the suicide bombing in Borno, which claimed several lives and left many others injured. He described the act as a cruel attempt to instil fear and destabilize peace efforts in the region.

“The bombing in Borno State was a tragic loss of innocent lives. I have directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide immediate support and relief to survivors and the families of the victims. I also extend my heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Borno State,” he said.

President Tinubu also used the opportunity to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to defeating terrorism, calling on security agencies to intensify their crackdown on Boko Haram insurgents. “I urge our security forces to remain relentless in their mission to uproot the remnants of Boko Haram and neutralize their capacity to use soft targets for their evil campaigns,” he emphasized.

Turning to Plateau State, the President strongly denounced the brutal murder of twelve wedding guests, describing it as a senseless and inhumane act. He said, “I condemn in the strongest terms the barbaric killing of twelve innocent citizens who were merely returning from a joyous celebration.

“This heinous act must not go unanswered. I have instructed the Nigerian Police Force to collaborate with other security and intelligence agencies to ensure that all those involved are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.”

He also called on the Plateau State Government to take decisive steps to address the recurring violence in the state. “The Government of Plateau State must work hand-in-hand with security agencies to uncover the roots of this incident and prevent further acts of violence. The cycle of killings must be broken,” he added.

The President stressed that the right to free movement is guaranteed to all Nigerians and must not be threatened by acts of terror or mob violence.

“Freedom of movement is a fundamental right that cannot be compromised. We will not permit any person or group to undermine that right through fear or violence,” he declared.

In Kano State, where five people were killed in an explosion at a scrap metal yard, President Tinubu expressed sympathy with the affected families and called for stricter enforcement of safety measures in hazardous work environments.

“The tragic explosion in Kano highlights the critical need for rigorous workplace safety enforcement. I have instructed relevant regulatory bodies to investigate the cause and implement stringent measures to prevent such incidents in the future,” he stated.

President Tinubu concluded his statement with a message of solidarity and compassion to all the affected communities and families.

“I offer my deepest prayers and condolences to the families of the deceased and to those who were injured in these incidents. To the people of Borno, Plateau, Kano, and Kaduna States, I share in your grief and stand with you in this difficult time. Be assured that we will not rest until peace and justice are restored across our beloved country.”

“May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may the Almighty continue to safeguard the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
