The Kano State Police Command has issued a stern warning to youths and members of the public against engaging in acts of vandalism and the destruction of public or private property.
This warning was made in response to a viral video circulating widely on social media, which captured a group of young individuals engaging in violent acts—tearing down and destroying campaign materials, including billboards and posters bearing the image of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, allegedly related to his 2027 re-election bid.
In an official statement, the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Command, Hussaini Abdullahi, condemned the incident, describing the actions as not only unacceptable but also criminal and a potential threat to public peace and security.
“This unwarranted act is not only disrespectful but also criminal and constitutes security threats that will not be tolerated,” Abdullahi stated.
According to him, the police have already launched a thorough investigation and are in the process of identifying and profiling the suspects involved in the video. He emphasized that anyone found guilty will be prosecuted and made to face the full weight of the law.
“The Police Command has commenced investigation and profiling of those behind this despicable act in a bid to cause them to face the full consequences of their actions,” the statement read.
Abdullahi further relayed the position of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, who called on residents to remain law-abiding and to refrain from any activities that could lead to public disorder or breach of peace.
Commissioner Bakori assured the people of Kano that the police remain committed to safeguarding lives and property and will continue to enforce the law without fear or favor.
“The command warns the public, especially youths, that any form of vandalism and destruction of property will be viewed seriously, as the law will take its course and those found culpable will be brought to justice,” Abdullahi added.
The Police Command reiterated its appeal for cooperation from the public and urged community leaders, parents, and guardians to educate the younger generation on the dangers and consequences of engaging in such unlawful behavior.
