The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to providing critical infrastructure in the Wassa District, aimed at facilitating the long-overdue relocation of traders and dealers operating under the umbrella of the Apo Mechanics.

Wike made this declaration on Friday during the inauguration of a committee tasked with overseeing and fast-tracking the relocation process. According to the Minister, the federal government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, has commenced concrete steps to ensure the traders are finally moved to their permanent site in Wassa — a promise made but repeatedly unfulfilled by previous administrations since 2011.

“It has been promises upon promises without fulfillment since 2011,” Wike said. “But now, under President Tinubu’s administration, the process has officially begun, and we are determined to see it through.”

To demonstrate the seriousness of the Tinubu administration, Wike announced that he will personally chair the newly constituted committee. Other key members of the committee include the Director of Survey as well as the Director of Resettlement and Compensation.

As part of the early steps in the relocation process, the Minister disclosed that a joint site visit will be conducted on June 27, where he will be accompanied by leaders of the Apo Mechanics and other stakeholders.

The purpose of the visit is to assess the Wassa location and determine the specific infrastructure requirements needed to make the area suitable for immediate occupation by the traders.

“This upcoming visit is crucial,” Wike explained. “It will help us identify the necessary infrastructure that must be urgently developed to support your relocation. This effort is not just symbolic — it is a testament to our collective resolve to deliver on President Tinubu’s promise.”

He urged the traders and dealers to remain united and avoid internal conflicts, emphasizing that greater achievements are possible when stakeholders work collaboratively. According to him, “Unity among yourselves is essential. You stand to gain much more when you work together rather than against one another.”

Wike also reiterated that the role of government is to improve the welfare of its citizens. He assured the traders that the FCT Administration is fully committed to making their relocation process smooth and ensuring their long-term satisfaction.

“One of our responsibilities in government is to ensure the happiness and well-being of the people,” he stated. “Rest assured, we will do everything possible to make the Apo Mechanics proud and satisfied with this transition.”
