Former Netherlands international Quincy Promes has been extradited from Dubai to the Netherlands to serve a seven-and-a-half-year prison sentence linked to drug trafficking and aggravated assault charges. The 33-year-old winger was detained in Dubai last week following an extradition request from Dutch authorities.
Quincy Promes was sentenced to six years in prison in February 2024 after being found guilty of involvement in a 2020 cocaine smuggling operation, where over 1.3 tonnes of the drug were transported from Brazil through the port of Antwerp, Belgium, to the Netherlands. In a separate incident, he was previously sentenced to 18 months behind bars for stabbing his cousin in the knee during a family dispute in 2020.
The Dutch public prosecution service confirmed that Promes is now back on Dutch soil and will begin serving his sentence. Despite his convictions, Promes has denied all charges and lodged appeals against both convictions.
