A young man identified as Umar Hisham Fagge, popularly known on TikTok as Tsulange, has been remanded in custody by a magistrate court in the Nomansland area of Kano State over allegations of public indecency and conduct considered offensive to moral and religious values.

The order was issued by Magistrate Hadiza Muhammad Hassan, who directed that the defendant be kept at a correctional facility until July 3, 2025, pending further investigation into the matter.

Tsulange was arraigned by the Kano State Censorship Board after a video surfaced online showing him bathing on a public road while wearing female undergarments. The footage, which quickly went viral, triggered outrage and was deemed inappropriate by many members of the public.

Reacting to the incident, the Kano State Censorship Board, through its spokesperson Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, issued a statement describing the video as not only offensive to public morality but also a direct violation of the cultural and Islamic norms upheld in the state.

The board further criticized what it referred to as a growing trend of indecent and provocative behavior among content creators on social media, warning that such actions would not be tolerated.

Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding societal values, the board vowed to continue monitoring digital platforms and take legal action against any individual or group promoting what it described as “disruptive entertainment under the guise of humor.”

The case has since drawn public attention, igniting conversations around the boundaries of creative expression, social responsibility, and the enforcement of cultural and religious standards in northern Nigeria.

Earlier in March, IREPORT247NEWS reported that two users of TikTok, Ahmad Isa and Maryam Musa, were each given a sentence of one year in prison by a Magistrate Court in Kano.

The videos that they shared were found to be objectionable to individuals’ moral and religious beliefs.

Prior to their detention, the Kano State Censorship Board had taken the two individuals into custody on the grounds that they had violated public morality through their posts on social media. Read here.
