President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s dedication to transforming the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) through strategic urban development and improved public infrastructure aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents.

Speaking through the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Benjamin Kalu, at the commissioning ceremony of newly completed roads in Abuja on Thursday, the president emphasized that investment in infrastructure is essential for national development. The event marked part of activities celebrating his second year in office.

Among the commissioned projects is the newly constructed Collector Road CN2, also known as Zakari A. Kyari Street, which stretches from Arterial Road N11 (Ahmadu Bello Way) in Mabushi District to the Judges Quarters in Katampe District. The road, along with several others within the Katampe area, was executed by the FCT Administration.

President Tinubu underscored that infrastructure development should not be viewed merely as an expenditure, but as a worthwhile investment that yields significant social and economic benefits for citizens. He stressed the administration’s resolve to continue investing in critical infrastructure such as roads, bridges, housing, healthcare, education, and transportation.

“I assure you that we are committed to ensuring that every Nigerian experiences the positive impact of good governance,” Tinubu stated. “We will continue to work tirelessly to deliver infrastructure projects that will enhance the quality of life for our people. This project is a testament to our resolve to promote urban development and improve living standards across the country.”

The president also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, and his team for prioritising infrastructure development and successfully delivering the project within record time. He called on residents of Mabushi, Katampe, and surrounding communities to take ownership of the roads and protect them from vandalism or misuse.

In his remarks, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike disclosed that the construction of the CN2 Road and other adjoining roads began in October 2024 with a projected completion timeline of 12 months. However, due to the efficiency and capacity of the contractor—CGC Nigeria Limited—the project was completed in just nine months.

Wike highlighted that the newly constructed roads would not only enhance mobility and interconnectivity across districts but also significantly boost local economies. He noted that the improved access and infrastructure would result in a rise in land values, thereby benefiting landowners and attracting more investments to the area.

He attributed the ongoing progress in infrastructure delivery across the FCT to the unwavering support of President Tinubu’s administration, which he said has provided the necessary backing to fast-track key development initiatives.

Also speaking at the event, Mr. Richard Dauda, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), gave further insight into the scope of the project.

He explained that Road CN2 is a dual carriageway with two lanes on each side, while the other roads constructed are single carriageways. He added that the projects are part of the broader strategy to expand infrastructure and open up Katampe District for accelerated development.

Shortly after the commissioning, Minister Wike led an inspection tour to the ongoing construction site of the Judges Quarters in Katampe and the N5 Road (Obafemi Awolowo Way) linking Life Camp to Ring Road III, which is slated for commissioning on Friday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that these initiatives form part of the administration’s broader urban renewal drive, which seeks to establish the FCT as a model of infrastructure-driven development and livability.
