Liverpool have initiated talks with Napoli to secure the signature of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen in a blockbuster swap deal that could see Darwin Núñez and Federico Chiesa head to the Serie A club, according to sources close to the negotiations.

The 26-year-old forward, fresh off a prolific loan stint at Galatasaray, is reportedly eager to join the Reds at Anfield, fueling excitement among fans.

Napoli have set a £63 million release clause for Osimhen, but Liverpool are exploring a part-exchange deal involving Núñez, who struggled last season, and Chiesa, who failed to secure a regular starting spot under manager Arne Slot due to persistent fitness issues.

The proposed arrangement aims to reduce the financial burden while landing a proven goal-scorer.

Osimhen’s stock has soared following a remarkable season in Turkey, where he netted 37 goals and provided seven assists in 39 appearances for Galatasaray.

His standout moment came with an acrobatic overhead kick against Antalyaspor, voted the Super Lig’s Goal of the Season with 65.8% of fan votes.

Despite interest from Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal, who offered a staggering €50 million per year, Osimhen has consistently rejected Middle Eastern moves, prioritizing his career in European football.

The Nigerian’s pedigree is undeniable. He played a pivotal role in Napoli’s 2022/23 Scudetto triumph, scoring 26 goals in 32 Serie A matches.

His blend of speed, strength, aerial prowess, and clinical finishing makes him an ideal fit for the Premier League. With only one year left on his Napoli contract, his departure from the Italian club seems imminent, especially after a fallout with the hierarchy last summer.

Liverpool, fresh off their Premier League title win, are active in the transfer market, having already signed Jeremie Frimpong and nearing deals for Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez.

However, they face competition from Manchester United, who have rekindled their interest in Osimhen, and Galatasaray, who hope to secure him permanently.

The race for the striker’s signature promises to be one of the summer’s most compelling transfer sagas.
