Panic and sorrow have gripped Tadurga village in Zuru Local Government Area of Kebbi State following a brutal attack by suspected bandits on the night of Monday, June 16.

The violent invasion, which reportedly left several people feared dead, has once again underscored the deepening insecurity in the North-West region of Nigeria.

Eyewitness accounts reveal that the attackers, armed with sophisticated and high-caliber weapons, stormed the quiet rural community under the cover of darkness. Upon arrival, they began firing indiscriminately into the air to instill fear and confusion among the residents.

According to a local resident who survived the ordeal, the bandits operated in large numbers and carried out the assault with calculated precision. “They came en masse, shooting sporadically. They looted shops, abducted many villagers, killed several others, and made away with our cattle,” the eyewitness said, his voice filled with grief.

The invaders not only claimed lives but also inflicted economic damage, carting away livestock and valuables from local shops. The total number of abducted victims remains unclear as of the time of reporting, with many families still searching for missing loved ones.

Confirming the tragic incident, the spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, disclosed that law enforcement authorities have already launched an investigation. He added that efforts are ongoing to ascertain the full scope of the attack and to bring the perpetrators to justice.

This latest violence adds to a troubling trend of rural communities across Northern Nigeria being targeted by armed groups, prompting renewed calls for enhanced security measures and proactive community protection strategies.
