Russia has issued a stern warning to the United States, cautioning against direct involvement on Israel’s side in the conflict with Iran. According to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, US participation in the conflict “would radically destabilise the whole situation.” Ryabkov emphasized the dangers of speculation over US involvement, stating that “even speculation over U.S. participation is dangerous”.
This warning comes amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, with Russia criticizing Israel’s strikes against Iran and accusing the Benjamin Netanyahu government of leading the world to the brink of nuclear catastrophe.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has denounced Israel’s attacks on Iran as “illegal” and called for a diplomatic solution to the conflict. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov urged both sides to exercise restraint, noting the “absolute” uncertainty surrounding the situation.
Peskov also reiterated Russia’s offer to mediate, although it appears Israel is not currently interested in pursuing a peaceful resolution. Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping has expressed deep concern over the escalating conflict, calling for de-escalation “as soon as possible”.
The international community is growing increasingly concerned about the potential consequences of the conflict. Jordan’s King Abdullah II warned that Israel’s attacks on Iran threaten to “dangerously escalate tensions in the region and beyond”.
The United Arab Emirates has also cautioned against “uncalculated and reckless steps” that could have far-reaching repercussions. As the situation continues to unfold, the world awaits a decision from US President Donald Trump on whether to join Israel’s strikes against Iran.
In light of these developments, Russia’s warning to the US serves as a stark reminder of the potential catastrophic consequences of military action against Iran. As Ryabkov noted earlier, “the consequences of this, especially if the strikes are on nuclear infrastructure, could be catastrophic for the entire region”. The situation remains volatile, with diplomatic efforts underway to prevent further escalation.
