The Katsina State Police Command has successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt in Mazare Village, located within the Sabuwa Local Government Area, rescuing four individuals—including three women and a baby girl—from the clutches of armed bandits.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, June 18, 2025. At precisely 12:21 a.m., the Sabuwa Divisional Police Office received an urgent distress call reporting an attack on the village by heavily armed criminals.
The bandits reportedly stormed the community, shooting and injuring two male residents—identified as 37-year-old Sa’idu Isa and 61-year-old Sa’idu Wa’alam—before abducting four victims, including a toddler.
Responding with urgency, the Divisional Police Officer mobilized a tactical team of operatives to the scene. Upon arrival, a fierce gun battle erupted between the police and the assailants. Outgunned and overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the police, the criminals were forced to abandon their captives and flee the area.
Fortunately, all four kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed. The two injured residents were promptly transported to a nearby medical facility, where they are reportedly in stable condition and responding well to treatment.
Commending the officers involved, Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, praised their courage, professionalism, and rapid response in the face of danger. He emphasized the Command’s unwavering resolve to safeguard lives and property throughout Katsina State.
CP Shehu also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to support law enforcement efforts by providing timely and credible information about suspicious persons or criminal activities in their areas. He assured residents that the police would continue to respond swiftly and decisively to any threat against public safety.
The Commissioner revealed that investigations are ongoing, and a manhunt has been launched to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
