The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Malam Shehu Mohammed, has issued a strong warning to motorists across the country, urging them to desist from offering bribes to its operatives and to always pay their traffic violation fines through the appropriate banking channels.

In a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday by the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the FRSC boss emphasized that the agency maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy toward all forms of bribery and corruption. He described any attempt to bribe patrol officers as a serious offence that would attract arrest and prosecution.

“It is totally unacceptable and contrary to the values, ethics, and standard operating procedures of the FRSC for any officer to receive any form of financial or material gratification while discharging their duties,” Mohammed stated. “Likewise, any motorist who attempts to induce our operatives with money or other forms of incentives will be apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the FRSC Establishment Act of 2007.”

The Corps Marshal made it clear that fines for traffic offences should only be paid through designated banks, as all payments are channelled into the Treasury Single Account (TSA) of the Federal Government. “No fine should be paid to any individual or directly to any operative. We are a transparent and accountable institution, and there is no room for corrupt practices,” he reiterated.

Expressing concern over repeated attempts by some road users to evade lawful penalties by offering bribes, Mohammed stressed that the Corps has had enough of such practices. He appealed to motorists to obey traffic laws and procedures rather than attempt to circumvent them through illegal means.

In the same vein, the Corps Marshal also issued a stern warning to FRSC personnel, cautioning them against soliciting or accepting bribes from road users under any circumstance. He reaffirmed that such conduct would be met with disciplinary actions in line with the Corps’ internal regulations.

To promote accountability and transparency, Mohammed encouraged members of the public to report any FRSC operative found demanding bribes or engaging in misconduct. Complaints can be submitted via the Corps’ official email address at info@frsc.gov.ng, through the FRSC Mobile Application, or the Flag-It Anti-Corruption App.

The public may also use the FRSC’s verified social media platforms, including Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and YouTube, all under the handle @FRSCNigeria.

Furthermore, Mohammed commended responsible citizens who have taken steps to report unprofessional behavior by some operatives without resorting to violence or confrontation. He praised their commitment to improving the system through lawful means.

He concluded by reiterating FRSC’s unwavering commitment to integrity, professionalism, and the enforcement of traffic regulations. “We urge all road users to strictly comply with traffic rules, including those guiding the movement of people, animals, and goods across the country’s road network,” he said.
