Tottenham Hotspur’s upcoming tour of South Korea is casting a shadow over the future of their captain, Son Heung-min, as Saudi Arabian clubs circle the forward whose contract nears its end.

With just 12 months remaining on his current deal, speculation about the 32-year-old’s next move is intensifying, but any potential transfer may be delayed due to the club’s commitments in Asia.

Tottenham has scheduled two high-profile friendlies—against Arsenal in Hong Kong on July 31 and Newcastle in Seoul three days later. As a South Korean icon, Son is a central figure in his homeland, where fans eagerly anticipate his presence on the tour.

His absence could disrupt the plans of organizers and diminish the commercial appeal of the trip, which is a lucrative opportunity for Premier League clubs. Sources suggest that only an extraordinary offer, far exceeding Son’s valuation, would prompt Spurs to consider letting their star player depart before the tour.

No formal bids have been tabled for Son, and his role in new head coach Thomas Frank’s vision for the 2025-26 season remains unclear. Frank, who begins work at Tottenham’s Enfield training ground this week, is prioritizing attacking reinforcements.

The club has already secured Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel on a permanent deal and is pursuing Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, signaling an ambitious transfer window. However, Son’s future is expected to remain unresolved until the transfer window nears its September 1 closure.

Since joining Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, Son has cemented his legacy, scoring 173 goals in 454 appearances and becoming the first Spurs captain in over 40 years to lift a European trophy, leading the team to victory over Manchester United in last month’s Europa League final.

His potential departure would mark a seismic shift for the club, given his status as one of Tottenham’s most influential players in the Premier League era.

As the transfer saga unfolds, all eyes will be on Son and Spurs’ next steps, both on and off the pitch.
