The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended two suspected members of the notorious Iceland cult group believed to be responsible for the brutal murder of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahoada Division, late Superintendent of Police Bako Angbashim.

SP Angbashim tragically lost his life on September 8, 2023, when he and his team were ambushed by members of the Iceland cult gang, which was then led by the now-deceased kingpin, Gift Okpara, popularly known as “2Baba.”

The command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed the development in an official statement released on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. According to her, the suspects, identified as Lovegod Goodluck and Precious Olumini, were apprehended during a series of tactical operations carried out in the Ahoada area by operatives of the command’s Octopus Tactical Team.

In the statement, Iringe-Koko described the arrests as a significant milestone in the ongoing effort to eradicate cultism and violent crime across Rivers State. She detailed the sequence of the police operations that led to the suspects’ capture.

The first arrest occurred on May 3, 2025, after the police received credible intelligence concerning the whereabouts of a notorious cultist, alias “K1,” believed to be a key figure in the Iceland cult group linked to the murder of SP Angbashim.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, operatives stormed a camp in Ikata Community, located in Ahoada East Local Government Area, and successfully arrested Lovegod Goodluck, a resident of the community. During the raid, officers recovered a locally fabricated single-barrel firearm along with two live cartridges from the suspect.

In a subsequent follow-up operation on June 13, 2025, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the operatives recorded another success with the arrest of Precious Olumini, a male suspect who had initially evaded capture. During this second raid, officers recovered from him an English-made pump-action shotgun and a locally crafted pistol.

Under interrogation, both suspects allegedly confessed to being active members of the Iceland cult group that has been responsible for terrorizing the Ahoada East axis of Rivers State.

The Police stated that further investigation is ongoing and that efforts are being ramped up to track down other fleeing gang members and retrieve their operational weapons.

All suspects and recovered arms have been taken into custody.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, psc, mnips, reaffirmed the commitment of the Police Command to safeguarding the lives and property of residents throughout the state.

He also appealed to the public to support the efforts of law enforcement by providing useful information that could aid in ridding communities of criminal elements.
