Chairman of Agidigbo FM in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom, Dr. Oriyomi Hamzat, has denied reports suggesting that he has declared interest in contesting for the Oyo State governorship seat.

Speaking on the matter, Hamzat clarified that he never announced any political ambition, stressing that he is more concerned with supporting the will of the people rather than pursuing any personal political aspirations.

According to him, many individuals have already indicated interest in joining the race for the governorship position in the state. However, he made it clear that he is not one of them—at least, not at this time. Hamzat emphasized that he will stand with the people of Oyo State and support any candidate they believe is right for the job.

“I have never said I want to run for governor,” he explained. “My role is to support the people’s decision. If the people of Oyo State and God decide they want me to lead, then so be it. But as it stands, I have not declared any intention to contest.”

His comments follow the circulation of a viral video clip from his live appearance on the popular programme “Oyo N Pe O”, during which he made a controversial statement. In the video, Hamzat was heard saying, “I will contest and I will win.” The bold declaration stirred public reactions, with many interpreting it as a formal declaration of his candidacy.

The statement, however, was made in response to a call he received during the live broadcast from a listener named Ota Ilosiwaju.

The caller urged Hamzat not to join the governorship race, arguing that he lacked the political network and structure required to succeed. Ilosiwaju further claimed that contesting would be a waste of time, as Hamzat had little chance of winning.

Hamzat Responds to Critics: ‘Don’t Kill the Dreams of Future Leaders’

Dr. Hamzat, known for his strong grassroots influence and community advocacy, took issue with the caller’s remarks. He strongly refuted the suggestion that he had no support, describing such thinking as narrow-minded and unreflective of the people’s true desires.

“You cannot say I will not win. You don’t know what is in the minds of the people. Don’t assume they won’t vote for me,” he responded during the broadcast. “Even with your negative mindset, I can decide to contest—and if I do, I will surely win.”

Hamzat stressed that no single individual holds the authority to speak on behalf of the entire population. He believes that the people’s will can surprise anyone, especially when a candidate’s contributions and impact are deeply felt at the grassroots level.

In further clarification, Hamzat stated that his response was not an official declaration of political interest but a passionate reply to an unsolicited attempt to discourage him. He urged the public to avoid demoralizing individuals who have the desire to serve or lead, regardless of their background or political affiliation.

He also took the opportunity to clear the misconception that he owns the “Oyo N Pe O” programme. “Let it be known that I am not the owner of Oyo N Pe O,” he said. “I’m simply a voice on the platform, using it to amplify truth, justice, and the will of the people.”

Hamzat concluded by reiterating his commitment to public service through media, stating that his focus remains on advocacy, accountability, and supporting the democratic will of the people.
