The Nigerian American Football Association (NAFA) has officially unveiled its competition apparel to the National Sports Commission (NSC) ahead of the inaugural IFAF Africa Flag Football Continental Games, scheduled for June 20-21, 2025, in Egypt.

The vibrant ceremony, held on Tuesday, marked a significant milestone for Nigeria’s flag football ambitions as the national team prepares to make history on the continental stage.

NAFA President Babajide Akeredolu presented the team’s jerseys to NSC Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, who charged the athletes with the task of representing Nigeria with pride and returning with medals.

“I am confident in your preparation, especially the women’s team, which I believe can clinch gold,” Olopade said. “Your inclusion of an U13 team aligns with the Commission’s vision to build for the future. I commend NAFA for the aggressive publicity and glamour you’ve brought to flag football in Nigeria.”

Olopade also expressed optimism about a potential partnership between NAFA and Showtimes to establish a robust national league. “If this synergy materializes, flag football will take Nigeria by storm,” he added.

Akeredolu highlighted the significance of the tournament, noting that flag football’s inclusion as an Olympic sport has spurred efforts to strengthen Africa’s representation globally. “

The IFAF Africa Flag Football Games are a historic step for the continent,” he said. “Nigeria is ready to compete with three teams: our main team, which has been in camp for two months, a women’s team, and an U13 team. We are optimistic about our chances, thanks to the growing talent pool from leagues like the Abuja Flag Football League, Showtime, Community Flag Football League, and Ogun Flag Football League.”

Nigeria will face stiff competition from sporting powerhouses such as Morocco, Tunisia, South Africa, Senegal, Ghana, Uganda, and host nation Egypt. The team’s departure for Cairo is imminent, with hopes high for a podium finish.

The unveiling ceremony underscored Nigeria’s commitment to flag football’s growth, positioning the country as a rising force in the sport. As the team gears up for Egypt, the nation rallies behind them, eager for a historic performance.
