The Nigerian National League (NNL) has celebrated the remarkable quality of play in the recently concluded 2024/2025 regular season, which wrapped up over the weekend with eight teams securing spots in the highly anticipated Super 8 playoff.

NNL Board Chairman, Mr. George Aluo, lauded the season’s high standards, describing it as a significant milestone for Nigeria’s second-tier football league. Speaking after observing one of the season’s final matches, Aluo, a veteran journalist turned administrator, expressed his enthusiasm.

While acknowledging that the NNL is still evolving toward its ideal state, Aluo emphasized the league’s progress. “We’re thrilled to see teams securing away victories and defeated sides accepting outcomes gracefully, without incident. This reflects the growing maturity of our players, coaches, and supporters, who have collectively elevated the league’s reputation,” he noted.

The eight teams—Osun United, Crown FC, Kun Khalifa FC, Warri Wolves, Barau FC, Doma FC, Yobe Desert Stars, and Wikki Tourists—earned their places in the Super 8 playoff, which will determine the four teams to be promoted to the Nigeria Premier Football League.

Aluo congratulated the qualifiers, describing their performances as evidence of the league’s maturing competitive edge. “The zeal and high standards we’ve witnessed this season show that the NNL has truly come of age. While it’s a work in progress, our collective resolve and positive attitude are driving tremendous progress,” he said.

Looking ahead, Aluo announced that the NNL board will reveal the venue and date for the Super 8 playoff next week. He noted that teams in Conferences A and B, which concluded their matches later than Conferences C and D, will receive a brief rest period before the playoff begins.

The NNL’s strides this season have sparked optimism about the league’s trajectory. Aluo expressed confidence that the Super 8 playoff will build on the regular season’s success, promising thrilling contests and showcasing the best of Nigerian football’s second tier.
