The Akwa Ibom State branch of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) has removed its Secretary, Ambassador Kelvin Umoh, following a string of allegations including gross misconduct, blackmail, and actions said to be harmful to the party’s unity and reputation.
The decision to expel Umoh was reached during a general meeting of party stakeholders held on Sunday in Uyo, the state capital. The gathering, presided over by Acting State Chairman Elder Wisdom Udoka, brought together a large number of party executives and leadership figures.
A communiqué released at the end of the meeting, bearing the signatures of Elder Udoka and 125 state executive members, stated that the disciplinary action was taken in line with the party’s constitution.
It cited Section 36.7, which authorizes the Executive Committee to sanction members who engage in acts that undermine the organisation’s principles or disrupt its internal harmony.
Among the claims against Umoh were accusations that he secretly convened meetings with a select few party members to instigate unrest and obstruct the smooth conduct of general sessions. These meetings, according to the party, were aimed at sowing discord and weakening the party’s progress.
The party also accused Umoh of defying internal protocols by refusing to approve crucial financial paperwork, such as a cheque for remitting 10% of nomination form proceeds following the 2024 local council elections. This approval, the communiqué noted, was only granted after he was pressured into compliance.
Further grievances included his alleged use of the media to challenge official party decisions without authorization, an act the party leadership said had embarrassed the organisation and violated its code of conduct. The communiqué emphasized that such behavior contravenes rules forbidding the public airing of internal matters without proper clearance.
In addition to these infractions, Umoh was also faulted for reportedly forming parallel party structures and consistently disregarding directives from the leadership — actions believed to have contributed to division within the ranks.
As part of its resolutions, the party announced the immediate elevation of Deputy State Secretary Mr. Moses Antigha to serve as the Acting Secretary of the YPP in Akwa Ibom State. Umoh was also instructed to return all party materials and documents in his custody to the state office within 24 hours.
During his address at the meeting, Elder Udoka described the decision as a defining step in the party’s journey — one that marks a fresh chapter built on discipline, shared values, and the revival of its democratic ideals. He called on members to stand firm in their commitment to the party’s vision and support efforts geared toward reform and rebuilding.
Udoka reaffirmed the leadership’s dedication to transparency, internal order, and a collective mission aimed at advancing inclusive governance and social justice under the YPP banner.
