Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich delivered a historic performance, demolishing Auckland City 10-0 in Cincinnati to claim the largest victory in Club World Cup history.
The German giants, led by manager Vincent Kompany, overwhelmed the New Zealand semi-professional side with a relentless display of attacking prowess, surpassing Al Hilal’s previous record of a 6-1 win over Al Jazira in 2022.
The rout began early, with Kingsley Coman heading home in the sixth minute to open the scoring. Bayern’s dominance continued as Sacha Boey doubled the lead in the 18th minute, lashing in a half-volley from Coman’s knockdown.
Moments later, former Crystal Palace star Michael Olise made it 3-0, converting a precise cross from Thomas Muller at the far post. Coman struck again in the 20th minute, firing a left-footed shot into the bottom corner to cap a blistering opening spell.
Muller, in his final tournament with Bayern before departing the club this summer, added to the tally, guiding Olise’s cross past Auckland goalkeeper Conor Tracey for the fifth goal. Olise then showcased his flair, curling a stunning strike into the far corner to send Bayern into halftime with a commanding 6-0 lead.
The second half saw a brief lull before substitute Jamal Musiala, returning from a hamstring injury that sidelined him for the final six Bundesliga matches, ignited the scoreline again.
Musiala netted a curling effort in the 51st minute, followed by a penalty after being fouled in the box. He completed his hat-trick by pouncing on a loose ball deep in Auckland’s half. Muller sealed the historic 10-0 scoreline in the 88th minute, converting a cross from Serge Gnabry.
