The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, in a unique and spiritually-driven move, has announced a ministry-wide programme of prayer and fasting aimed at seeking divine intervention for national protection and sustainable food security.
According to an internal circular dated June 11, 2025, and signed by the Director of Human Resource Management, Mrs. Adedayo Modupe O., the initiative is part of efforts to support the federal government’s ongoing drive to address the escalating challenges affecting the country’s agricultural sector and food systems.
Themed “Divine Intervention for Protection and National Development,” the prayer sessions will bring together all levels of staff across the ministry—including directors, deputy directors, assistant directors, value chain desk officers, and other personnel. The event is scheduled to hold on three consecutive Mondays—June 16, 23, and 30, 2025—at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
Mrs. Modupe emphasized that the sessions are being held to “invoke God’s guidance and support in strengthening the government’s policies and programmes geared towards achieving a stable, secure, and resilient agricultural system for the nation.” She urged staff members to participate with sincerity and commitment, noting that the spiritual gathering is designed as a solemn appeal for divine direction.
The circular also instructed all ministry staff to attend the sessions in a fasting state, underscoring the seriousness and spiritual significance of the programme.
“This is to invite all staff of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to a solemn prayer session for God’s guidance and success in supporting the government’s efforts to achieve food security,” the memo stated. “Please kindly come fasting on Mondays 16th, 23rd and 30th June, 2025,” it added.
The announcement comes at a time when Nigeria is grappling with numerous food security concerns, including rising food prices, erratic weather patterns, insecurity in farming communities, and disruptions to the agricultural value chain. By turning to faith, the Ministry hopes to reinforce policy efforts with spiritual support in its quest to feed the nation and protect rural livelihoods.
