Enyimba Football Club is grieving the loss of former goalkeeper and Togolese international Bassa Sabirou Djeri, who passed away at 37 after a brief illness, the club announced yesterday.

Djeri, born June 17, 1987, in Bassar, Togo, was a beloved figure in African football, known for his exceptional skill and quiet leadership. His career began with Gbikinti FC in Togo before he represented the Éperviers, Togo’s national team, earning 15 caps with standout performances. Djeri later played for Cameroon’s Coton Sport and Nigeria’s Enyimba FC, where his shot-stopping prowess and professionalism left a lasting impact.

“We are devastated by his demise,” Enyimba FC stated. “Bassa Djeri was a gentle giant—a man of integrity and discipline who served the badge with pride.” His humility and mentorship in the dressing room were as admired as his performances on the pitch.

Tributes have flooded in from the Togolese Football Federation, former teammates, and clubs across Africa, celebrating Djeri’s talent and character. The club extended condolences to Djeri’s family, Togo, and the football community.
