The Osun State Amotekun Corps has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden and untimely passing of one of its dedicated officers, Ogundiran Sheriff, who served as the Provost of the ‘B’ Division in Ila-Orangun.
Sheriff reportedly collapsed unexpectedly on Friday, June 6, and was later confirmed dead—a loss the corps has described as monumental and deeply painful.
In an official statement released to journalists in Osogbo by the Corps’ Public Relations Officer, Mr. Yusuf Abass, the Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Dr. Isaac Omoyele, conveyed the heartfelt condolences of the entire corps to the family, friends, colleagues, and the Ila-Orangun community at large.
Dr. Omoyele described the late Sheriff as more than just an officer, noting that he was a disciplined, loyal, and tireless professional who stood as a pillar in the operational structure of the Amotekun Corps.
According to him, “Ogundiran Sheriff was not only an exemplary operative but also a proud son of Osun State who dedicated his life to safeguarding the peace and security of our people. His sudden demise is a shocking and irreplaceable loss, not only to the Amotekun Corps but to his family and the entire Ila-Orangun community.”
Highlighting his contributions to community safety, Commander Omoyele praised Sheriff’s professionalism, bravery, and unwavering dedication to duty. He said the fallen officer played a critical role in maintaining law and order across Ila-Orangun and its environs, and that his legacy of service would remain a lasting part of the corps’ history.
In a show of continued solidarity, the Amotekun Commander reaffirmed the commitment of the Osun Amotekun Corps to honor the memory of its fallen heroes by upholding the values they stood for. He also assured the bereaved family that the corps would provide necessary support during this period of grief.
“Sheriff’s service will never be forgotten. We pledge to carry forward the values he embodied and stand firmly with his family as they navigate this painful chapter,” Omoyele concluded.
