Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has officially submitted the names of twelve nominees to the State House of Assembly for confirmation as commissioners in his Executive Council. This significant development comes after more than one hundred days since Governor Aiyedatiwa assumed office following his swearing-in on February 24, 2025.

In a statement released in the early hours of Friday by the governor’s spokesman, Ebenezer Adeniyan, the list of nominees was disclosed. The candidates include notable figures such as Professor Igbekele Ajibefun, former Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko.

Others on the list are Ayorinde Abiola Olawoye, Ayodele Akande, Alabi Johnson, Amidu Takuro, Adewale Akinlosotu, and Idowu Ajanaku. Additionally, Oluwaseun Abosede Osamaye, Tob Loko, Olaolu Akindolire, Sunday Olajide, and Omoyofunmi Segun Henry have been nominated for commissioner roles.

Governor Aiyedatiwa, in a formal letter addressed to the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Honorable Olamide Oladiji, invoked the powers granted by Section 192 (1&2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), to forward these nominations for the House’s consideration and approval.

He appealed for an expedited confirmation process, emphasizing the importance of promptly constituting the Executive Council in the overall interest of the state.

Among the twelve nominees, three are returning members of the previous state cabinet, bringing valuable experience and continuity to the new administration.

Another three candidates have been promoted from their roles as special advisers to commissioners, reflecting the governor’s confidence in their capabilities. The remaining nominees are fresh entrants, poised to bring new perspectives and energy to the state government.

The announcement of the commissioner nominees marks a critical milestone for Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration, which had faced criticism from opposition parties and other stakeholders over the delayed formation of his full cabinet.

The establishment of the Executive Council is expected to accelerate the implementation of the government’s agenda and governance across the state.
